William Smith Durie
In the middle of 19
th century part of today's Bloor West Village belonged to
Lieutenant Colonel William Smith Durie, who was the first commanding officer of the Queens Own Rifles.
Durie Street (in the middle of Bloor West Village), was named after William Smith Durie. William was married to Anna Peel Durie (1856-1933) and together they had two children. One of them was
Arthur Durie, who died in World War War I in 1918.
